Nothing (But) to LOSE
Welcome to Act 5 of the 8 Part STORY SPIRAL
Having nothing to lose would make life boring. When you lose something, it reminds you to focus on what else you are. What happens when it’s someone else’s turn to lose?
Sympathy is what you experience when you can feel someone else’s pain, but you still maintain a healthy thoughts-and-prayers distance. Empathy is when you are brave enough to get up close, or to even get directly involved. To take a position alongside the one suffering.
The latter is what a storyteller wants for their audience. Suffering sucks. But it’s a big part of what makes a dramatic story stick. In Act 5, when you start to turn the metaphorical screws, your hero needs to LOSE something. Your audience needs to feel it too.
Take a moment to LOSE yourself in today’s video.
